Ana "Negrin" De Jesus was one of the original Founders
of this organization, she understood the importance of our mission
and endeavor. Furthermore, she embraced it, supported and
encouraged us to continue our effort in providing a safe
environment to play baseball. Most importantly she knew deep down
that this was not only about playing baseball, but she knew
that what we were accomplishing was one of the most crucial and
essential services to the youth of our community, a safe haven
that would serve to keep our youth away from the street and all of
the negative elements that it has to offer. While I'm sure that
this brings sadness to a lot of us, it is remembering what Ana De
Jesus stood for, she loved and cared about one of the most
precious resources within our community, it's youth. I propose
that on Friday we all make an effort to honor her memory, a floral
arrangement will be nice and I suggest that we do send one to
Ortiz Funeral home, but to truly commemorate Negrin, let's
present ourselves at Lindsay Park and show our respect to
one of the legacies she left behind, one that she will feel
honored and privileged that is still carried on and will continue
to carry on for years to come. |

Williamsburg, Brooklyn
- Community Events |

For those curious about what the
new McCarren Pool will look like, we have this
rendering shown at a Community Board 1 meeting in Williamsburg last
night and photographed by a Curbed Correspondent. It's sort of like
what the Rogers Marvel
plan would look like if someone bought a bootleg version of it sold
out of a shopping bag on Canal Street, but it does give an idea of
what it will look like in a few years. As we noted
last week, the new pool covers about 70 percent of the area of the old one. The diving pool will be recreated with a
board 12 1/2 feet hight. The pool will be "resorty"
with umbrellas and tables. There will be cafes "catering to
different price points." The Parks Department says it's looking for
new concert space in "other parks" and on the
waterfront. Anyone with a non-bootleg rendering, can contact tips@curbed.com,
where operators are standing by.
